Saltwater and Fly Fishing

The flats waters in Roatan are rich with bonefish, permit, tarpon, and snook and provide many opportunities for fly-fishing or deep sea fishing.

Come navigate through schools of bonefish in the shallow waters of the bay. Feel the rush when a giant tarpon hits your fly and leaps from the water. Stalk the elusive bonefish and challenge your skills. Pound for pound, the best fighting fish around.  And Roatan is reknowned for it's large permit.

Looking for excitement? Attempt a flats grand slam, catching a bonefish, permit and tarpon all in one day.

There is a great variety of fish species to go after in the beautiful waters surrounding Roatan. On the flats we fish for bonefish that average 3lbs. and can range up to 5.  Permit are always a bonus as well as tarpon. There are hidden pockets for snook as well. Barracuda are always cruising the flats and are certainly a challenge on light gear. We recommend you  bring with you polarized sunglasses, light spinning tackle or fly rods.

On the reef we fish for snapper and grouper, barracuda and jacks; there is nothing better than a freshly cooked grouper on the grill, which our staff will cheerfully prepare for you. At night we fish for yellow tail snapper, another great fish to soothe the palate.

Offshore and depending on the time of year we fish for blue and white marlin, sailfish, wahoo, dorado, black-fin tuna, yellow-fin tuna, bonita, king mackerel and shark. All of these fish put on a spectacular fight. Sailfish, marlin and shark are all released unless foul-hooked. The Bay Islands are not an estuary such as that found around the Gulf of Mexico or Belize.  Fish in these areas range in size.  However in Roatan we find that most of the aforementioned species are always large since most of these schools are just passing through; either following the large and numerous schools of tuna and bonita or because of the seasonal changes in tides, currents and water temperature.

You do not need a fishing license. The fishing is great all year round and in September and October there are deep sea fishing tournaments where you can match your skill against other anglers.
